1. IntroductionIn order to promote the mutual understanding and friendship, cooperation and exchanges in various fields between China and other countries, the Chinese government has set up scholarship programs to sponsor international students, teachers and scholars to study or conduct research in Chinese universities.The University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (hereinafter referred to as ‘UCAS’) is one of the Chinese Government Scholarship universities. For those who want to apply for the Chinese Government Scholarship-Chinese University Program, or Silk-Road program, please follow this call. Apart from these two Programs, UCAS can also accept students who are awarded the Chinese Government Scholarship-Bilateral Program, EU Program and other programs. Please refer to for detailed information on the about these programs. Applicants of these programs are required to finish both the scholarship application procedure via CSC online portal (here) and the admission application procedure via UCAS online portal(here).2. Value and BenefitsTuition feeSuccessful PhD students who are awarded a scholarship are exempted from the tuition fee of RMB 40,000/year.Successful Master students who are awarded a scholarship are exempted from the tuition fee of RMB 30,000/yearApplication feeSuccessful applicants who are awarded a scholarship are exempted from the application fee of RMB 600.Monthly stipendSuccessful PhD applicants will receive a monthly stipend of RMB 5,000, of which RMB 1,500 will be provided by the supervisor or the CAS Institute the applicant is enrolled in.Successful Master applicants will receive a monthly stipend of RMB 3,500, of which RMB 500 will be provided by the supervisor or the CAS Institute the applicant is enrolled in.Accommodation FeeSuccessful applicants could live in UCAS Beijing campus for free or apply for an accommodation subsidy for those who live off Campus. The subsidy will be provided no more than RMB 700/month for master’s students/general visiting students, and no more than RMB 1000/month for doctoral students/senior visiting students.Medical InsuranceUCAS will buy insurance for the successful applicants with the insurance premium RMB 800/person. Sponsorship DurationMaster students: 36 months (with no extension)PhD students: 36 months (Applicable for duration extension, which shall be approval by the China Scholarship Council. Eligibility Criteria○ Be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport, friendly to China and abiding by the laws and decrees of China, and UCAS rules and regulations;○ Be proficient in English or Mandarin;○ Requirements on education background and age as follows:○  Applicants for master’s programs must have held a degree or diploma equivalent to a Chinese bachelor’s degree and the applicant should be no more than 35 years old.○  Applicants for PhD programs must have held a degree or diploma equivalent to a Chinese master’s degree and the applicant should be no more than 40 years old.○  Applicants should meet the general admission criteria for international students of UCAS(here).○  Applicants must not have accepted any other sponsorship at the time of application and cannot accept any other sponsorship during the period of this scholarship.○  Applicants should study full time in the research institute he/she is enrolled in and are not allowed to take any other job during his/her studies.Note:○  If you are currently pursuing a Master's degree at any university/institution in China, you are NOT eligible for the Master's program of this scholarship. 1. IntroductionThe University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) accepts international students through over 20 UCAS faculties and over 100 institutes of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). See here for detailed information about applicable UCAS faculties and CAS institutes.Doctoral programs commonly last for 3-4 years. Certificates of graduation and degrees will be awarded to those who have met the requirements of graduation and degree conferment.2. General Conditions for Applicants(1) Non-Chinese citizens who abide by China's laws and decrees, as well as UCAS's rules and regulations.(2) Be of good character and in good health without any infectious disease or physical or mental diseases that may affect the normal study.(3) Holding a Master's degree or its equivalent.As some countries' higher education systems are very different from the Chinese system, applicants from different education systems should see Attachment 1 for reference.(4) English proficiency is required. If the application materials are incomplete or do not meet the requirements, they will be returned for modification or may be rejected.All documents must be in English or Chinese. Otherwise, scanned copy of the original and its English or Chinese translation are required to combine into one PDF file. When submitting the application, if the applicant finds a supervisor and got accepted, he or she shall upload the supervisor-signed Provisional Acceptance Form to the online application system.Applicants are encouraged to make informal contact with potential supervisors prior to making an application. Send an explanatory e-mail together with your CV, transcripts, motivation letter with detailed research proposal and other documents to him/her, and clearly state that you wish to apply for the doctoral program of UCAS.Certificate of Financial SupportFor those who a. have already got financial support, please attach the certificate of financial support; b. are applying to study by self-support, please attach the affidavit of support from guarantors and a bank statement; c. are applying for UCAS Partial Scholarship to get tuition waiver, please complete its online application procedure.Bank Receipt of Application Processing FeeApplicants of ANSO Scholarship, Chinese Government Scholarship and UCAS Scholarship for International Students are not required to pay for this fee. Processing fee is non-refundable in any case.5. Online ApplicationApplicants are required to submit their application via the online application system (http://adis.ucas.ac.cn) within the application time. Please finish your online application as early as possible, for the college or institute which you select to evaluate your application and remind you to correct or complete it when necessary. Please also note that:It is not mandatory for you to find a supervisor prior to submit an online application. Those who meet the above-mentioned conditions can submit application whether they find a supervisor or not. For applicants who do not get accepted by any supervisors when submitting application, the colleges or institutes which they select may help forward their applications to potential supervisors for references.The information filled in is very important for the university to make Admission Notice, Visa Application Form and others. Applicants must ensure that the information filled in is accurate, to avoid any impact on the subsequent related matters.Please DO NOT create two or more accounts and submit multiple applications to us. We will check the duplicates. Once verified, they will be disqualified from application or admission.6. Evaluation and AdmissionUCAS enrols international students based on evaluation of application documents together with an entrance examination. The admission committee of the applicable UCAS schools/CAS institutes will review the application documents and select applicants for entrance examination. The examination will be mainly taken on interview. Some colleges/institutes may require applicants to take a written test. The examination shall be hold by the college/institute applied for and notified to the applicants who have passed the evaluation of application documents.Admission is determined at UCAS school/CAS institute level with oversight by UCAS according to the result of the document review, the interview, and other factors. Admission Notices, Visa Application Forms and some other documents will be sent to the admitted students after the final admission result is released. Prior to this, applicants may check their admission status via the Online Application System for International Students of UCAS (here)7. Visa Application and RegistrationThe admitted student should take his personal passport that is used for admission application, Admission Notice, Visa Application Form (JW202/JW201), and original Form of Physical Examination Record for Foreigners as well as other original documents of physical examination to the Embassy or Consulate of the People's Republic of China, and apply for a student visa (X1/X2 visa). Please do not enter China visa-free or with other types of visas other than X visa. Please keep the original Admission Notice and Visa Application Form (JW202/JW201) which are needed for registration and residence permit application.The admitted student should register at the place indicated in the Admission Notice, and should register on the assigned date. Otherwise, they should get the university approval in advance.8. UCAS is one of the Chinese Government Scholarship universities. Eligible applicants may apply for above-mentioned program to the China Scholarship Council with recommendation from related national official departments and Embassies or Consulates of the People's Republic of China. The scholarship application usually starts in November and ends in the following April, but please be noted of deadline variations for different countries. The International Students Office of UCAS will offer pre-admission notice if needed. Applicants may submit application via UCAS (see here for detailed information and application procedure) to apply for Chinese University Program and Silk-Road program. Part I: IntroductionThe Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO) is a non-profit, non-governmental international organization founded in 2018. Founding members include 37 scientific institutions, universities, and international organizations worldwide. ANSO aims to improve regional and global capacity in science and technology, human livelihoods and wellbeing, and to promote broader S&T cooperation and communication.The ANSO Scholarship for Young Talents (hereinafter referred to as the ANSO Scholarship) was formally launched in 2019 with the goal of training and cultivating young scientists from all over the world. The ANSO Scholarship supports 200 Master's students and 300 PhD students every year to pursue postgraduate education at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) or institutes of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) around China.This year, a sub-category of the ANSO Scholarship: the ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO PhD Scholarship will be officially launched. Echoing the priority of TWAS/UNESCO, special (not exclusive) consideration will be given to two target groups: Least Development Countries (LDCs) and women. Up to 40 PhD students from developing countries will be selected by TWAS/UNESCO into this category every year.Part II: Coverage and duration [NOTE]For ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO PhD Scholarship awardees, the above item 1 to item 4 will be covered by CAS; item 5 and item 6 will be covered by TWAS/UNESCO.
