Philosophy of biology has become one of the most vital areas of contemporary research in philosophy of science. It both addresses fundamental questions together with general philosophy of science and provides applicability in specific problem domains. In order to strengthen academic exchanges among young scholars of philosophy of biology in China and to promote the progress of cutting-edge research, the Institute of Philosophy, Chinese Academy of Sciences has decided to hold this workshop.


      Young scholars from famous research institutions in China, such as Peking University, Fudan University, and Shanghai Jiaotong University, will be invited to discuss the concepts of scientific explanation, causation, teleology, and natural selection in the context of philosophy of biology in the following topics: naturalization of Kant's teleological doctrine, the importance of reproduction in evolution (ENS) due to natural selection, design principle and mechanistic explanation, interventional counterfactual conditional sentence concepts, etc.
